Mastering Pressing Time & Temperature Basics

Understanding how time, temperature, and pressure affect different materials is key to pressing with confidence.

Our DTF Transfers generally work within a LARGE margin of error, which is a really good thing because it means you are highly likely to get it correct the first-time.  But in the case it doesn't work the first time, there are some easy adjustments to make it adhere properly without ruining your garment.

Over-Pressing your transfer will not damage or dull the transfer.  Which means if you see your transfer peeling, you're noticing that it has not adhered properly. To fix this you can set it back down and press again with more pressure and for more time as long as the heat press is set to at least 305 degrees.  If that doesn't work, you can increase your heat by 15 degree increments and try again.

Pro-Tip:  Most pressing issues described below can be completely avoided by simply using our silicone garment and platen cover.

Below are a couple issues that can be caused my improper pressing:

Heat Press Box or Platen Imprint

Scorching Image

Appearance: Indentation, visible square or hard lines around the pressed area

Causes:

  • Too much pressure or heat without a protective guard sheet or silicone sheet.

How to Prevent It:

  • Reduce pressure or decrease temperature for lightweight or delicate materials, like polyester & tri-blends
  • Use a pressing pillow and a guard sheet

Shiny Texture
